On June 12, 2023, during the seasonal transition from spring to summer in Japan, a march took place in Tokyo commemorating the 4th anniversary of the Hong Kong protests. Despite the heavy rain, muddy grounds, and various challenges such as not being allowed to open umbrellas and malfunctioning loudspeakers, 150 participants remained resolute, marching through Shibuya for over an hour. They faced provocations but Tokyo police professionally maintained order.
The event emphasized solidarity with those who have been persistently advocating for democracy in the past four years and called upon the Japanese government to leverage its significant influence in Asia to resist authoritarian forces, advocating for democracy and freedom in the Asia-Pacific region.
